Divorce made easy
The right lawyer will make a difference. Choosing the right lawyer to guide you through your divorce is one of the most important divorce-related decisions you’ll make. When you’re going through a divorce and looking for an attorney, remember that you don’t have to hire the first attorney you meet. Choose a lawyer that you are comfortable with and that you believe has your best interests in mind. Even if you’ve received a referral to a family law attorney from a friend or another lawyer, you should still do your homework; check the attorney’s qualifications, and make sure he or she has enough experience to handle your case.
Ending a marriage can be a very complicated matter. Issues often include property division, allocation of debt, spousal maintenance, custody, division of retirement assets, bank accounts, including pensions and 401ks, child support, insurance, motor vehicles. Some divorces involve situations where one party has brought substantial assets into the marriage or may have inherited assets and the non-marital claims need to be allocated.
There is a vast body of law in Minnesota that applies to these issues. The legislature frequently makes changes to the applicable laws. In addition, the Courts must interpret the laws based upon the facts of each case, so you’ll need to find an attorney that’s familiar with the law and cases that apply to your divorce.
